Default getting picky on the tire inflation issue, please don't throw tomatoes at me. :-)

the gas lid recommendations show 33F 30R for a 180 coupe, 16" or 17" tires, carrying two adults and one ingot. :-)

if it's true that the recommendations are the EXACT pressure you're tires should have, then wouldn't 33F 30R be "over-inflated" for that coupe carrying only one adult and no ingots ?

can you point me to something that will assure me that we're not looking at this backwards ? not intending to be disrespectful, but there doesn't seem to be concensus on this matter.

i claim that for a particular pressure there is a max load, and that the gas lid recommendations are really saying that for 33F 30R you should be carrying no more than 2 adults and one suitcase/ingot. i also still claim that 36F 33R is not overinflated, especially for 17" tires.

i'm willing to accept that i'm wrong, but perhaps i need more evidence.

Default pressures are suggestions

within a safe operating range, compensating for roads and comfort considerations. I run my TT at full laden pressures most of the time; higher still on the track. The softness factor is too great for me in the "normal" pressure range; I appreciate the firmer ride, better gas milage and control of the firmer tire.

YMMV

Default That is the exact meaning per manufacturer. IMHO.

Though as with Jello and Eggs softness/hardness is personal. Just watch out for salmonella.

Default also, what's the recommendation for the 225 coupe w/17" tires ? 36F 33R ?

seems like if the recommendations are to be taken exactly, the weight of a two person loaded 180 AWD coupe (let's say 3131 + 150 + 150 = 3431) would exceed the weight of a one person loaded 225 coupe (3208 + 150 = 3358), therefore the 180 should have a higher tire pressure. right ?

i just can't believe those recommendations are meant to be dead-on. if it was that exact you'd have a formula so that there would be different recommendations for every load.

Default I wonder if they have considered the density of individual ingots. Some people travel with...

...ingots of lead while others can have ingots of styrofoam. That will certainly have an impact on tire pressure. To be most beneficial, they should have given a presumed specific gravity of the ingots in the picture.

Default I use 36F and 34R. I often have stuff that I have to haul around (golf clubs) and work related stuff

so I keep from tire pressure at those levels.

Also, when you check your tire pressure, the tires have to be "cold."

if your TT is not loaded up and it's just you driving, would you consider 36F34R to be overinflated?

No, I think when the tires are bursting at the seams - that's overinflating. IMHO.

Default I run my 18" 235/40 tires at 41F/38R. Every type of tire and tire size wants a different pressure.

The gas cap is the SUGGESTED for the the RE040's(or whatever CAME with the car from Audi). Once you add/remove weight from your car, change the type of tire or tire size, this all changes!

I have dialed in a pressure that I like. It gives me the handling I want, while insuring that I won't damage my 18" rims.

There is no 100% correct tire pressure. Some tires like a lower pressure, others a higher. If you want to find out the right pressure for you and your car experiment! It's not hard to do, and in most cases costs nothing. Just remember to mark your findings and always use COLD tire pressure readings.
