Luxury Tax on your TT
Did you guys pay a 4% luxury tax on your TT's when you bought them? I believe the tax is on the final negotiated price of an automobile $38,000 or over. I'm gonna try to get the dealer under the $38,000 mark.

isn't luxury tax a local thing ?
when i bought my coupe in st. louis, it came in just under the limit where i would have had to pay luxury tax.
i was under the assumption that this was a local tax .. i think i recall someone telling me if i had purchased outside of the city limit, the luxury tax didn't apply. it didn't matter in my case so i stuck with my original dealer.

Currently 4% on amount above $38,000
Auto luxury tax is a federal tax, currently at 4% for 2001, applicable to all retail auto prices above $38,000. It will decrease by 1% each year until January 1, 2003 when the tax is phased out.
Again, the 4% applies to the amount in excess of $38,000.

Since dealer ripped me on trade of A6 he lowered TT price u/ $38k. So I guess you could get best
deal and if it is not u/ 38k, ask him to lower the price and you'll take less on a trade-in to compensate. That should work since sales price will be less than level of lux tax
