Morning "fun" with the five-oh...
So I'm sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on
Alewife Brook Parkway in Cambrigde, MA (because
they're been doing "construction" on the same
rotary for three years, but whatever). After
forty five minutes, I get antsy, so by the time
I hit the highway, I'm ready to zip past some
cars and maybe, just maybe get to my morning meeting.
I get on route 2 and start going, accelerating
uphill and such, trying to make up some time.
When the cop comes roaring up on me (and the V1
told me he was coming, but NOTHING matters in
that case), I was moving through traffic at
a good clip (probably 80-90), but decelerated
quickly, but not stomping on the brake.
So I pull over right away, turn off the car, all
the good stuff. Then starts the fun conversation.
"License and registration."
"Here's my license."
"You were doing 100 in a 55?"
"No idea."
"No idea? Weaving in and out of traffic - the
cell phones were already calling in about you."
"Here's my registration."
(I really wanted to say, "It's hazardous to use
cell phones while driving." But I didn't, so I
am not in jail and thus able to type this for you.)
*long pause*
"Here's what I did. I estimated you at 75 in a
55, because I couldn't catch you to clock you."

Anyway, is this beatable? An estimate of 75 in
a spot where traffic was doing that speed? He
obviously didn't catch me doing more than that.
I'd be happy to get it the point of paying the
ticket as long as I avoided the points on the
insurance.
Go for it. You have nothing to lose by fighting it. Other than a day or 2 of work.
