My trial update! (congrats Denny!)
No TV today because the Judge chased them away before we started and I snuck my client in the back to avoid the standard "Press Gauntlet". Could be another story tomorrow....
And that's the real story.....
Despite an entire day of testimony by 7 or 8 prosecution "witnesses", the State isn't finished presenting it's case. We have to continue tomorrow afternoon and there's no guarantee that we'll be done even then.
As far as testimony so far, I won't ruin the drama as you approach the morning paper (as I know that every one of will do), other than to say that no evidence has been presented whatsoever against Wannie (Dajuan Wagner). Sure, the alleged "victim" got up there and told a story so incredible that even the reporters thought she was making many "fact" up.
The outrageous testimony was one thing (I expected that), however, there was an event in the courtroom that I had never encountered in over 100 trials (and none of the other attorneys had seen it either):
During one of the breaks, the complaining female's sister (who isn't involved) was observed passing a microcassette recorder to her mother (who is a witness and who is not allowed in the courtroom). Such a blatent violation of "sequestration" oreders is almost inconceivable. Anyway, when I learned what had been observed, I demanded that the Judge order the courthouse Sheriffs to find and arrest the woman. They did that and they siezed the recorder. Fortunately, it wasn't operating correctly so it didn't capture any usable testimony. The Press will have a field day with that incident.
In fact, they're having a field day with all of it. I hope tomorrow's articles are somewhat accurate.
This is almost a surreal experience. When we got into the courthouse, a bunch of Sheriffs came up to Wannie for his autograph. I'll feel very good if the Judge asks for it sometime tomorrow!
Well, this is long enough. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the most important thing:
We arranged to meet in a lot near the courthouse early. I was there first and when he pulled in (yes, he has a nice car - SUV) he came right up to my car and say "***** that's sweet!" and then the obligatory "it's fast, huh?" I only smiled. He loved the plates! As much as I like him and as much as my career isn't being hurt by the publicity, I hope he doesn't ask to drive it...
...now, if his pal Allen Iverson comes by tomorrow to watch and asks to drive it.......
More updates later. I need ice cream!
Here's a link to our case in case you need something to put you to sleep one night next month.... ;-) Good luck tomorrow!!

LORILLARD TOBACCO CO. et al. v. REILLY, ATTORNEY GENERAL OF MASSACHUSETTS, et al.

I know you won't believe this but, despite his talent and absolute God-like status in this area, he is a very quiet, unassuming and polite kid. Away from the basketball court, he is just a nice, likable kid.

Top HS players (ESPN)
