Default Hey torque wrenchers - $21 lifetime warranty locking micrometer style at Pep Boys.....

Not as cheap as TTop Gun's rec. at Homier tools but saved enough to get 3 1/2 ton floor jack and stands. Now as long as it doesn't break right away.

Default Now are you sure that it does not have a lifetime warranty against accuracy. I

started that way, but decided I had to spend the money if I wanted true accuracy. AAMOF, went through two bargain torque wrenches prior to getting the picture.

Default Definitely a good point. I just bought one a few weeks ago for $260.

It's a Snap-on, 50-250 lb-ft. Came with documentation of accuracy, lifetime warranty and all the rest, but torque wrenches should still be calibrated every year or so.

Default I wanted a Snap-on but could not justify the cost to myself. I did buy a very nice precision one,

however, from a local tool supply house in Orlando (after talking to a Snap-on distributor). My theory is, is that if you are using a torque wrench on something, the implication is that it requires accurate tightening. Why buy something that is undoubtedly inaccurate for a job requiring otherwise? BTW Johnrg, please don't take my post as a critisism of your purchase. I have just been there done that on torque wrenches, and after buying two of the kind you got, I finally relented and spent the money. I was doing some work that required some accurate tightening.

Default I agree, on my bike cylinder head studs, etc. use a PROTO.....

but for lug nuts on my wheels felt a 2-4 lbs. may not be too extreme an error. This wrench was calibrated (and inspected with same verbage as on my better wrench which still recomends re-calibrating regularly) and has a 4% error lattitude. All others are 2-4% no matter the cost. Usually I go for the best tools possible but after Top Gun's experience with his and the usual variance of torque on wheels by stock lug wrenches that come with cars and from outside installers felt the risk was negligeable or within reasonable amounts. I will find out though at first tech inspection.

Default Good point. I certainly wouldn't use my expensive wrench on lug nuts, and reserve my others for

that, and with a typical torque requirement of 100 ft lbs for lug nuts, I don't think it is a big deal, and probably the best wrench for that job.
