Graphs 1&2 show raw data and smoothed interpolated values. Even with the greater smoothing factor the values well represent the data points. Graph #3 shows values re-interpolated on uniform speed points so that an average could also be displayed. For any given gear, engine speed is a function of the car's speed. Graph #4 is the same as #3 except speed is displayed as engine speed.

Default Hey John, been watching these graphs pop up every so often . . .

Problem is, I'm graph-deficient . . . any chance we can get explanations as to what this data mean in laymans terms?

They're used to compare different set-ups & conditions.

Default Re: 4th Gear Data

Are the wild swings in accel. (before smoothing the data)just artifacts, or is there a reason for such instant-to-instant variation?

Mostly I think it has to do with resolution of speed (40 rpm) and unconstrained timing error.

Default Depends on the comparison.

This is one benchmark. Variation in response at low speed may be due to not having the engine come to equilibrium before starting test. Unsure why jerk is rising at upper end. Originally this car looked surprisingly slow compared to my stock car. However it may be due simply to temperature and/or altitude. Need to get more data files.

Default If this is the most recent data I've sent you, then it represents a more level playing surface

I found a true flat, straight road for the logging this time. The other data was close to flat, but not quite.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Would you mind sending me the spreadsheets? I'll then be able to use the same formalae in future logging attempts without bugging you. :-)
