TT Track tire - trailer hitch possible?
It would be great if I could find one similar to the custom Boxster hitch that attaches to the license plate area.

It is F'ugly! it destroys your ground clearance, is not removable.
I drove to Shirley, MA last year to see about D'Alan Hitches doing a hitch for the TT. They are the only cmpany that makes hitches for European cars. Yes a few companies make hitches but D'Alan is the largest and they do custom work. They could not figure out ho to do one for the TT.
We even toyed with a Boxster type hitch to the license place! It would not have worked out.
I'll give you your minority opinion :-) that it ain't a pretty piece of work. Keep in mind that it's gone through *several* revisions, and is currently at V4.2. Considering that my total investment in it is $19 worth of steel and a case of Yoo Hoo for use of the welder, I'd say that it works pretty well. You can't knock the durability, either, since it's logged 5-digit mileage already with only a loose nut this year.
If I had any motivation whatsoever, I could re-engineer the thing to be 100% hidden behind the bumper skin, and have a detachable receiver come out from under the rear valance. The reason for the low crossbar was to clear the factory muffler (no longer an issue), and to get under the rear valance without cutting.
Of course, I will NOT share pictures, measurements, or even a detailed description for personal liability reasons. If you want to know the attachment points that I used (and nobody else seems able to find) so that you can engineer your own unit from scratch, e-mail me. I'll even give you a hint or two for how I would do the detachable receiver in V5.0.....
