THERE just have to be easier and cheaper ways of cooling down a warm car.
Switching on the air conditioning, for example, normally does the trick.
In fact that's what the driver of this pounds 27,000 Audi TT was trying to do when it lurched forward into a river. He had leant through the window to turn on the
ignition, unaware the car was still in gear.
To make things worse, it wasn't even his motor. The man, who does not want to be named, was test-driving the sports car with two friends when they stopped for
lunch by the River Whitewater at Odiham, Hants.
Ann Lye of Bluebeckers restaurant, where the trio had just eaten, said: "He was in a terrible state.
"He just came back and sat on the steps wondering how to tell the firm who lent it to him what happened.
"When it was dragged out it was full of mud and the engine was ruined."
An Audi UK spokesman said last night: "The customer is very embarrassed about this."

Dare I admit this?
Just yesterday, parked the TT in the private lot behind my brother's shop (he was washing and waxing his S4 in the air-conditioning!) and when i came back out, saw that the TT had rolled backwards about 15 feet! I checked the handbrake, and it was still in the up position, as far as it would go, i thought, until my brother reached in and pulled it up another notch or two. I was VERY lucky in that there were no other cars in the lot. I now plan to yank that sucker up with both hands from now on!! And to leave it in gear.

Kevin stated that that is not a feature on TTs other than the U.S.A. -- can happen in UK
Audi has this on our cars either because of USA regulations or because of the old, unintended accelleration debacle.
