x-posted from A4 forum, Saab's answer to the TT
Pasted from Autoexpress:
Is this the car that will have Audi TT owners checking up on part-exchange values? Saab is hoping to boost its global sales with a totally new range of models that's set to include a top secret coupé.
Known as 'Shooting Brake' within the company, the sporty Swede is being readied in concept form for a debut at September's Frankfurt Motor Show. It's been penned by recently appointed executive director of design Michael Mauer, and our exclusive picture gives a hint of what's to come.
Evolving Saab's visual themes into a more aggressive package, the stylish coupé will be the firm's first concept since the EV-1 in 1985 and its first two-seater sports car since the Sonett III was axed in 1974. Power is likely to come from a 2.0-litre turbo lifted from its Vauxhall Astra rival. The coupé will be based on the new 9-3 which is due to go on sale next year, available as a three and five-door hard-top and convertible. An estate and all-wheel-drive version will also feature in the line-up for the first time.
For the 9-5, a common-rail diesel version using Isuzu's 3.5-litre V6 is confirmed, and may be available in time for the European launch of the facelifted car at the end of this year. The all-new 2004 version will see the introduction of the GM Epsilon II platform, and the first large-scale use of the Saab Combustion Control engine.
And there are plans to build a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) to challenge BMW's X5 soft-roader. There's also talk of producing a larger model to do battle with the forthcoming X7.
