Default Bad Shock Syndrome (BSS) Help

I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that something just doesn't feel quite right in the cars handling. It seems like the ride is harsher, and there is defintely more noise. ALso when taking corners it just doesn't feel quite as "reliable".

This happened shortly after putting 18" Millia Miglia's on the car so I'm not sure if it's normal for the 18" wheel or if the shocks went south after the install. When we installed them the hydraulic jack was not let out "gently". Not surte if that could play a role or not.

Also, Should the tires pressures be set to the same as they would for the stock tires?

Thanks guys! (and gals)

Anyone have any ideas?

Default Extra unsprung weight probably killed the shocks...I know when I took mine off it took em 10 mins

to extend from the compressed position...
Time for coilovers =)

Default marcus that is how brand new monroe shocks extend! They need springs to extend them

they are pieces of crap for a shock. they are not gas filled, just oil filled. it is normal.

Default MM's are not exactly light......>>>>

but if the shocks had any miles on them at all (IE: more than 10K), the heavy wheels are kind of highlighting their weakness. As Quicksilva said, adding unsprung weight was the culprit. IMHO, even with light (expensive) wheels the stockers are junk. I tossed mine at 5K miles....

Default So you think it is just the new rims? ...

I know it is hard to guess at something like that and I wish I could describe the handling strangeness better but it just doesn't seem "right". I just didn't think that the 1 size larger wheel would make that kind of difference....Really weird.

Default I have BSS...

After about 5K miles I started to notice a definite degradation in ride and handling. I'm at almost 11K now on the stock oilcans, and I will soon be upgrading to Bilstein dampers.

This is my personal experience; some here will vehemently disagree. Perhaps they drive on better maintained roads then I do. Admittedly, my car sees some lousy pavement and even gravel roads occasionally.

Default Thanks for the input!

I hate to spend 500+ clams right now but I'll have to work it in to get those Bilstein sports.

Default Thanks....I guess the question isn't if I should get Bilsteins...

Just how quickly

I had my 5000 mile service today. I noticed more this evening and I hadn't thought of mentioning it to the service guys.
