GuilTTy, RE: Here's what a Jew can do!
Everything you see that is wood, I made. I bought all the wood at home depot a few weeks before school started last fall. After taking some solid measurements of the room and laying out my design I cut and machined the pieces to the beds, desks, and entertainment center/bar on my driveway. I then assembled it and tested for fit and finish. I then disassembled and loaded the ton of lumber in the Jeep and brought in down to school, only 20 minutes away. I then spent a few days reassembling and sealing the wood. It was all made out of construction grade lumber and the beds we're really put to the test
Everything held up great. The desks you see are about 10 feet long from three 2x12 mated together. My desk has a hundred pound monitor, 400-pound fish tank and other stuff and the boards do NOT flex even though they are only supported around the perimeter, no legs.My next year apartment has plans for a hug bar with three beers always on tap + nitrogen tank for the Guinness which will come out of a barrel in the wall behind
We had a nice bar in this one with a granite top but it was to small. The new bar is in the works. Here is a view of the desk holding up all that weight.

Lastly, a view of the other side of the room containing the TV, minibar area and water cooler. Also note the second fish tank which weighs about 200 punds and is having no problems with the entertainment center.
