Default Tweeter did a great job ...

cracking my rear window. Took my TTR in Saturday to have a box dropped in the trunk with a couple of extra woofers. Now I've got one crack with a chip at the end that starts about an inch below the top of the rear glass and runs to the edge of the window and another smaller one. Incidentally they did a great job with the box + the speakers. In fact you can't even tell the box is a box at all - it looks like just another part of the car.

And yet the saga begins ... called my local dealer and they're telling me that it's not possible to simply replace the rear window. In fact the entire top is going to need replacing. I'm awaiting a price quote - apparently it's something the dealerships don't even perform in-house. I'm not all that happy about having my car taken to some independent shop that I've never heard of so they can remove the entire top of my car. But such is life.

Anyone know if Tweeter is a franchise? I'm hoping not b/c I had a similar incident with a Mobil station and they're not corporately run so I was never able to get any resolve out of them.

Anyone know off-hand what replacing the top runs about? I'm guessing a few grand - I'm assuming the top itself is pretty expensive, not to mention the presumably laborious task of having to install it.

Ugggghh...

Default I think you guess is correct... except it to be expensive. :-(

Won't insurance pick up the tab if you can't get Tweeter to do the right thing?

Default I know that my 89 Cabriolet needed a few tops *8* to be exact because

of people who felt they wanted my stereo equipment intstead of paying for their own

OEM top was around $2500 plus labor.... multiply that out by 8 total = one unhappy insurance company.

I cant imagine that the TT will be any cheaper for genuine OEM canvas tops Sorry

Default Dealers dont do upholstery

That's too bad about the window.

Dealers never do seats, tops, etc. They always farm it out. I grew up in the industry since my dad owned a seat cover store. Ask around for a reputable seat cover & top shop near you.

Default Actually a friend said since I paid with a credit card, the credit card

company might pick up the tab. Not sure how that works though.

Default Call their customer service number...they'll explain in detail (it is a drawn out process)

Basically you'll dispute that you received what you paid for (or something to that effect).

The last time I looked into this I believe there is a 100-mile radius on your address for this working. Ie, if the store was 101 miles from your house it doesn't apply. I figure with the advent of the Internet, this might not be the case anymore.

This is a prime reason why I use credit cards instead of debit cards.

Default Tweeter is NOT a franchise, but a chain . . .

if you went to an original Tweeter location and not one of the converted shops you should be just fine. They are based out of Boston.

Which location did you go to? They did my stereo.
