CHICAGO AREA Drive and Dine :) (details inside)
)----
All right, get fired up! The Chicagoland TT drive is on. It is set for this Sunday, August 19.
Overview

Gathering - Drive - Dinner. Meet in Geneva, IL at a parking lot. There we can chat and take some pictures before heading out on the drive. We will leave around 2 and travel west and then north along the Rock River. In Rockford, we must make the call whether to continue along the top of the state to Zion and then cruise south along the lake before heading to the restaurant, Tsukasa of Tokyo, or take a more direct route to Vernon Hills from Rockford.
Time
We will meet at or before 1:00pm at the Taco Bell in Batavia, IL (next to
Geneva). For directions go here. If this link doesn't work, the address is 134 S Randall Rd off of Main St. (R38).
We will head out on the drive at around 2:00pm. The drive can take anywhere from 3 or more hours depending on our route after Rockford. We hope to arrive at Tsukasa of Tokyo in Vernon Hills at 6:00pm for a nice dinner.
Drive
Meet in Geneva, IL to collect in a big parking lot for pictures and chatting. Then head west out on scenic Route 38 to Dixon. These are some great country backroads. Then we will head north on Route 2 driving along side the Rock River which should be very pleasant. When we get to Rockford we can play it by ear - either continue across the top of the state to Zion. If we get here we can travel south along the lake and then head back west on Half Day Road (22) to the restaurant. This route will take longer but should be better roads.
Otherwise, if were are low on time or depending on how we feel, we can choose a more direct route from here to the restaurant. Restaurant
Tsukasa of Tokyo is one of those psuedo Japanese places where they cook in front of you. You'll have to come to find out all their tricks. Although this place has sushi, its not know for that. Better sushi can be had but they have great steak, fish, shrimp, lobster and chicken. It is located in Vernon Hills north of Chicago. It is on the corner of Half Day Rd (R22) and Milwaukee Ave. For driving directions directly to the restaurant, go here
Event
It can be broken into three parts: parking lot in Batavia, the drive and dinner. Although participation at all three is the best, you can come for any one of these parts. Just let me know and we can make arrangements to
accommodate that.
What should you do?
- Clean your car, as I have no doubt it will be photographed
- Bring a short-wave radio such as the Motorola Talkabout so we can chat while driving. Trust me, this IS fun. If you don't have one that's ok, but if you have more than one bring it so others can join the fun.
- E-mail me to tell me what parts you will be going to. If your coming to dinner, tell me how many in your party so I can get a reservation. Also, if you have a cell phone, email that to me so we can find each other if we get lost
Please let me know if your attending so I can get the count. Thanks Aaron for coming up with these great roads. I'm really exciting. Also, thanks to everybody who provided input. It was much appreciated. I look forward to meeting everybody I don't know. This should be a nice way to spend the Sunday. See you soon!

2. That Taco Bell is not in Batavia. That's the border of Geneva and St. Charles. You had me confused for a second, thinking you really wanted to meet in the parking lot of Taco Bell in Batavia, which is nowhere near Randall.

Those are my old stomping grounds. My entire group of friends when I was in high school and college lived in the tri-cities area (St. Charles, Geneva, and Batavia), with a few from Elgin.
Anyways, so which is it, Saturday or Sunday? I need to figure out if I can make it.
Sorry 'bout that. Also, thanks for correcting the Batavia - Geneva thing. I just went off the address on Yahoo Yellow Pages. Does the link work? Also, have you driven these roads?
I hope you can make it.
I don't have a Talkabout, but maybe I could pick one up for the drive. (I can just see it now...shifting and talking...scary.)
