XPOST: AoA stole my ECU - looking for suggestions
Otherwise, theft is definitely at play.
If they really did this, both they and the dealer are complete fools. Who knows what the legal implications are.
What they really need to do is reexamine their entire chip/warranty policy from the ground up. If they want to make turbo cars that lend themselves to chipping, they better just figure that a certain percentage will chip and raise their prices across the board to cover any increase in warranty claims they incur. Yeah, people who don't chip would be cross-subsidizing those who do, but if Audi doesn't like that, then they should just sell two versions of the car -- chipped or not, and the chipped one should be more expensive by (cost of chip + added cost to warranty it).
