OT: Online DVD Petition for Warner Brothers
Recently, Warner Brothers has decided to make all 'Family' films Pan & Scan, or Open Matte. meaning the films are being edited or cropped to fit an NTSC standard television with a ratio of 4:3
However. All of those big, fancy, HDTV & Projection screens you all know and love are 16:9, just like the movie theaters. There is also a feature called 'anamorphic' (aka 'enhanced for 16x9') which doubles the lines of resolution on the newer televisions.
Warner has decided that the average 'family' hates widescreen, or letterboxed films and has decided to stop releasing 'family' films (recent titles include the much anticipated ***** Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Cats & Dogs) thus releasing them edited for television, or open matte in the case of ***** Wonka (meaning it was filmed 4:3, but projected through a matte at the theater. If you watch, you can actually see things like the air pump in the blueberry violet scene, etc) that were filmed but known to be matted out in the theaters.
So, if you are like me and enjoy watching the movies as they were intended, and don't want a distributor deciding to edit (aka censor) the original content because people don't understand how movies are filmed, please sign the petition.
Who knows if it will do any good, but still, it's worth a shot. I for one will not order anything that is not 16x9 & Anamorphic unless it is a TV Program that was shown 4x3.

http://www.petitiononline.com/wdvdx/petition.html</a
