Default Uh-oh, 2002 VW GTI w/TT 180 output...hmmm

Well, I guess it's time to install that aftermarket exhaust and maybe a new ECU on my '00 TT QC now that the new VW GTI 1.8T has the same 180hp and 173ft/lbs as the TT...and is about 300lbs. lighter.

My guess is the next change will be to up the HP on the TT line. Should make for some factory goodies if they stay with the K-03 turbo on the 1.8T 180 motor.

Default It has been debated that the latest iteration of the 1.8T motor in the Golfs...

right now are already at 180hp...a ride in my best friend GTI tells me that the motor is the same already....

Default All the so-called 170 hp 1.8's are 180 hp too (more0

Should be very interesting for Audi now with VW moving seriously upmarket. The 1.8t is the same across the line. It now has more hp than the VR6, which will soon offer 201 hp. The W8 Passat ($40,000+) is now available, and the D1 (A8 territory) and the SUV are on the way. There is a $100,000 roadster in the works. VW is doing interior trim as well as any luxury brand. The TT definitely needs an upgrade now. It is already the slowest in its class, and now a GTI 1.8 will whip it too.

Default I have both...1.8T GTI and 1.8T TT and the TT

is definetly quicker. My GTI is a 2000 and is
rated at 150hp and I feel that's pretty accurate.
I wasn't aware of the different codes, Sean. Can I upgrade with factory parts?

Default Well, the differences have been indentified as this as far as I know......

the newer 1.8T (2001) has a different cam setup (some sort of vario-cam timing contraption)

The early 1.8T Golfs used a K03 turbo and the newer ones use a K03/K04 hybrid that is the same one as the 180 TT uses.....

It sounds like it would be cost prohibitive to me.....cheaper to upgrade the chip =)

Default Yup.. and the 2002 GTi and Jetta 1.8t's (180hp) have an even Different code>>

althought I dont remember what it is... its a different engine code from the AWD and the AWW and the 2002 is deffinately faster than the 2001 from what I hear on vortex (although I'll personally let you know in a month or so.. heh)

Basically its the same as the 2001... only with more boost and some fuel curve/timing adjustments from what I hear... I'm thinking though, that with the different engine code... there might be some internal differences as well.

Default variable valve timing for emissions and power on the newer 1.8t engines

the 1.8t engines for 2001 (audi) and 2002 (vw) <-- from what I've seen, no one at VAG told me ...

You can see the pollution impact on the audi window stickers - the 1.8t cars now pollute less than the previous non-variable timing heads... that plus tweaks to the software give the 150-170/180 hp jump.

Any self respecting TT should have 300 hp Now that would be nice...
