Paging my co-editors, Joel (GuilTTy) and Paul (TTinGables): Thoughts on Cookbook Marketing
What if we made sales of the cookbook AW wide, and made a final charitable contribution in the name of the missing Allroad forum member? I think this would provide incentive for people across forums to purchase the book.
I also thought we might offer it in hard copy and electronic formats, the latter would cut production/distribution costs to nil.
Just some thoughts... ;-)
Paul - rest of recipes coming today, so don't get all bent ouTTa shape... ;-)
1. Strange as it sounds, offer the books for sale to and through Audi dealers. This might appeal to prospective TT owners - they see one while at the dealer and realize that the car they are looking at may well come with much more in the way of "lifestyle" options (as in our community).
2. Licensing. We can't put the rings or the TT logo on the cover w/out express permission from Audi. If they won't grant us a license (which they probably won't) we're still OK but we just won't put those images on or in the book.
We would also need a license from AW to put their logo on the book but I can't imagine that Jason would have a problem with that.... (would you???)

BUT WE DON'T! (at least I don't).
BTW, that hat is only barely on - just 4 cups in.
As for electronic distribution, we can do 2 things. I can set up a password protected section on our company web site, and place the menus there in .pdf format. Once someone pays, they get a password to allow them to view and download the recipes to their hard drive. Alternatively, we could also put it on cd-r. But I think we still need to produce a printed version.
In that vein, I am strongly leaning towards having the printed version spiral bound (not the plastic but the metal spiral binding), since if you like to cook with a cookbook open, it's nice if the book lays flat.
