Default Gonna take the plunge and change my own tires this winter

So I ask if the following is correct:

- I need a 17mm extended impact deep well 1/2" socket;
- Torque wrench to do 90 ft/lbs - 120 newton/metres
- Will purchase a lift (there's a reasonably priced 3 ton unit locally);

Can I safely guess my A4 has same lug size?

Where are the lift points on the TT? I believe from an earlier post someone stated not to use the points listed in the manual for a lift.

All help appreciated, I'm not much of an auto mechanic!

Default Ian, don't do it!!! (there are people who specialize in such things, and we really MUST keep

them gainfully employed, or they'll all start working in non-profit finance, and take away my job)

Just kidding, of course, good luck and Vayez con Dios, etc... ;-)

Default Ian, correct on all guesses . . .

as for lift points:

At the front of the car behind each wheel is a rubber donut for the jack point, same at the rear of the car in front of the wheels.

Make certain to cut out a disk of wood to fit inside the metal dish of the jack so that the car is actually resting on the wood and not inside the jacks metal dish. This will prevent the jacks dish from pressing into the belly pan of the car itself.

Default Measure the distance from floor to lift point... I came home with my marvelous

new 3.5 T lift from Sears only to discover that while it fit under the TT, it would not slide under Mrs Rascal's S4 in front... had to revert to my smaller, wimpy 2 T lift.

Default very simple/easy "fix" for that . . .

get a 2x6 about 18" long in front of each front wheel, add a 2x2 "stopper" at the front and drive onto the 2x6, this will raise the car more than enough off the ground.
