Mark, given some of the backlash/ignorance that's manifested, since the tragedy (more)
the "otherness" implied in the description of vilain persona (the turban and the note on "Eastern" descent"), might not strike some of our non-white citizens as particularly funny, right now. You will recall, a man was shot in Mesa, AZ last week, b/c he was "Eastern" and wore a turban??? The man was a Sikh, from Northern India (as are all Sikhs), a Hindu (as are all Sikhs), and probably anti-Taliban (given the political situation in Kashmir and Northern India)... So, this seemingly innocent rhyme, might not be so, for its ability to type-cast in an already hostile climate for some of our denizens, myself included.
So, while I understand and sympathize, with your sentiment about things "just BE(ing) funny," right now they're not, atleast in my mind. As not everyone, and certainly not children, have the open-mindedness required to not have a panic-reaction to those who are different, and perhaps like the enemy due to any number physical similarities...
just my $.02, friend.
