Default Brillant Black vs. Raven Black

I've been a consistant visitor on this forum, and will be getting a 2002 shortly. I originally ordered a 180QC Moro Blue, but now am thinking about getting a 225. Apparently, there doesn't seem to be many 225 Moros coming into the S. Cali dealerships, so I may just a get a black TT. But what the heck is the difference between the two blacks? Is one more "blacker" than the other?
TIA!

Default the difference is this . . .

Brilliant is a true black. It is as dark a black as you can get. The Raven is a pearl effect black, or what the US autocompanies used to call metallic paint, or metallic flake. In most light conditions Raven looks brown. That is why I didn't get it. I had a choice of both and picked the Brilliant because it looked black to me and not brown.

That is why Rahul drives a "UPS Truck" up in New Hampster! lol

Default Only under sodium lights when it stands still does it look brown

Most say it looks dark grey in light. In the dark is black. I think both are great colors. I used to have an Audi 5000CS and it was a similar color- graphite grey. It deffintly draws attention when people are close up. Don't think that the car will look brown all the time, I have only look at it and thought that 2 or 3 times in my ownership- over a year.

Default strange . .

everytime I have seen a black TT I can tell immediately that it is Raven or Brilliant. It is just not as dark and looks dirty/brown to me.

I have not seen it where it really looks black. Maybe I am looking for a darker color and it just can't get dark enough for my eye.

Default See I can not tell unless I am at the car.

Last night I followed a black roadster and I could not tell if it was BB or RB. I guess if you are used to BB it might be hard to look at RB and say it is black. But I think it is more grey then brown. They added tiny red fleck into the paint, I think that is what might give it a brown tint sometimes.

Default to me, raven black looks like brilliant black with a coat of dust on it....

and brilliant black is just 'none-more-black'. raven is much more rare than brilliant black. i like both colors, but brilliant was the only one available when i got my 225...

Default Never once have I thought of it as brown...

glimpses of grey or purple maybe, but never brown to me.

Someone else on the board said it best.

Brilliant black is a deep true black color
Raven Black is more dynamic. It has hues of purple and grey and maybe even brown. I guess what you see is what you see.

Caution, which ever one you get, paint imperfections or scratches are much more visible in both of these colors than any other TT color I have seen.

Default i looked at the inventory at one dealership...

...which had a few of each color in a covered parking garage, and it was almost impossible to tell them apart w/o getting really close...some of the cars hadn't been detailed, and as i said above, raven just looks like a dusty/dirty brilliant black to me.

Default as an RB owner who seriously considered BB

RB in direct light looks almost bronze, at night it's a deep, somewhat sparkly black. BB is just gloss black.

Default (No time to explain today, but Raven is MUCH faster, for a number of "scientific" reasons)

Has to do with the little speed-enhancing flakes, and stuff...

Seriously, go study the two cars in varying light conditions. Find a dealer that has the coupe in both, go by morning, afternoon and evening, if you can. It sounds like apain, but it's worth the effort considering your investment in the car, and the fact that you will probably have it for a number of years.
