Default Greetings to all!

Please allow another rookie to join your group, and excuse all ignorance (stupidity, dumb questions, etc, etc)at least for a few days. Own 2001 TTR(180)pearl black, baseball seats (stupidity?) and all. Am thinking of trading for 2002 225Q for the local Chicago winters. Does the extra hp more than make up for the extra weight? Also, have bee reading about changing the DV valve (sooner rather than later seems to be the opinion). Who would do such work and does it affect the warranty? Thanks for allowing me on board. Peter, Northbrook, Illinois

Default Welcome Peter!

Here are some quick answers:

1. Yes, and then some

2. Many (if not most) install their own aftermarket DV (certainly not me). Some dealers will do it if you have a good relationship w/ them. Technically, yes, Audi could raise the warranty issue but they are well aware of the defective design of the OEM DV and I have not seen one post indicating that a dealer has declined warranty coverage b/c of an aftermarket DV.

Best of luck (and there are no stupid questions)>

Default Hey Northbrook! I'm in HP here. It's good to have some Northshore representation finally!

Yes, change the DV and you can drive any TT all winter.

Default hi, peter -- as long as you have quattro, the winter driving performance...

is the same in a 180 or a 225...change the dv if you feel a performance issue or if you can hear it (the only problem i had with mine was a fluttering sound, but it was bothersome and it was fixed with an aftermarket dv). if you add aftermarket performance items (such as a chip), you'll probably want to change the dv.

will it affect the warranty? in theory if audi can show that the new dv caused another problem, they could deny coverage -- but i haven't heard of anyone with a replacement dv being in that situation.

I drove my 180 roadster last winter with no problems; you need snow tires. I'm west in Carol Stream.
