OT: My first trip in an ambulance to the ER... (long)
Finally, called my ex-fiancee as my girlfriend was working and had her cellphone turned off. My ex arrives and I try to get up. No way. My back keeps going into the most painful, unrelenting spasms about every 30 seconds. The EMTs arrive and they finally put me on a stretcher(!) and wheel me out to the ambulance.
My back was seizing almost the whole time and I was hyperventilating. They got radio permission to hit me with 5mg of intravenous Valium, with authorization to give me 5mg of Morphine if I needed it.
When I got to the hospital, the Doc checked me and I got 25mg of Demorol and 1mg of Adavan (a muscle relaxer.)
On the way to radiology, the tech was a real bitch who had no compassion and had me screaming in pain during the process.
Back in the ED, I got 50mg more Demorol , a hit of Morphine, more Valium. About a half hour later, I was given 25mg more Demorol, another hit of Morphine, and some more Adavan, plus a pushable version of ibuprofen (Toradol)
Was finally able to move around without pain and got out of the gurney. Went and picked up my prescriptions for Percocet, Valium, and 800mg Motrin.
Still feel pain when I move certain ways today, but at least I have some mobility.
Looks like I won't be doing any lifting in the near future.... rats!
Thank God I have 4 more days of medical coverage under my layoff! (I guess I'm gonna have to buy COBRA insurance...
Even getting into her 4Runner was hard unless I crawled in head-first.
However, I was able to get in my Expedition and drive to KFC a couple of hours ago with no problems. I'm actually feeling mostly alright, with the occasional spasm/contraction if I move just wrong.
Thanks, everyone, for your words of concern!

If they're good, they can do a lot of things to correct the "other" little problems you'll likely develop (overcompensation from other muscle groups, muscle spasms, etc.) When I had this experience, the next day was pretty nasty, until I visited the chiropractor. Much better

Hope your back heals well. Cheers!
