Default Advice to a first-time manual/first-time turbo driver?

I've driven an automatic my whole life, and never even been in a car with turbo before. Anybody want to impart some wisdom on how to best drive the TT 225? I'm using my friend's Toyota truck to learn how to drive a stick, but somehow I suspect the TT is going to feel a little different. I'm especially curious about the turbo. How do you engage the turbo? Thank god for the anonymity of the internet -- how humiliating to admit such ignorance!

Default Don't worry, the turbo will take care of itself.. just go slow on the shifting, in a day or two you

will do OK.. welcome to the club.

Default It took me 4-5 2 hour periods to get to the point where I do not really "think" about shifting

It becomes second hand. Of course my family has had automatic vehicles, but we are very partial to manual. I myself would not buy any other type of car. It has been 2 years since I learned stick (started at 18). All it takes is time. I are working on my cluchless shifting now and rev matching. It did help to have a car to practice on- 1986 Audi 5000 Turbo Quattro. EVery car is diffrent, but all share the same principals. Just adapt what you learn from your friends truck into the TT, only takes a little bit of time.

Default Always take your foot completely off the clutch pedal & put it on the floor ...

in between shifts. If you leave your foot on the pedal even a little you will be wearing out the clutch. Also don't leave your hand on the stick while driving this can mess up the trans. If you are on a steep incline use the handbrake to keep the car from rolling back. Once the clutch engages take the handbrake off.Driving a stick is a feel kind of thing . The more you do it the better you'll get.

Default I only drove manuel for 25 years ! Just listen to your instincts and AkRascal

It is interesting that when I try to drive an automatic car it is very hard for me. My left foot always seeks the clutch and I need to press clutch. Instead I push the brakes with my left foot ! Very dangerous of course. So I always keep in mind not to press the brake and forget the left foot. Strange huh ? :-)
