Default For anyone waiting for the "X-chip" from Garrett . . . keep on waiting . . .

It is NOT going to be coming out for the TT, nor was it ever even a thought to be coming out for the TT. It is a strictly S4 Chip, nothing more, nothing less . . .

The switchable program chip via the remote control will be coming out for the TT soon, don't have an ETA on it though.

Spoke with AWE-Tuning on Friday and am awaiting another call on Monday, but as of now . . . NOT a happy camper. Garrett does NOT have any plans on developing chips for the TT the way he has done the A4 and S4 in the past. All of his chips will be strictly a single standalone chip for a stock car or a car with an exhaust. If you do any other modifications to your car, don't go calling ANY Garrett Distributor for any sort of custom chip programming. The ONLY way that custom chip programming will be getting done is in the following ways:

1. You are putting together a "kit" such as the PES T-25/28 kit, the AWE K04 kit or whatever other kits are out there that Garrett is programming for.

2. You create an Intercooler of some sort that guarantees Garrett that you will be selling a MINIMUM of 25-30 units along with a chip upgrade! Yes, you read that right. I asked AWE about a chip for a Forge FMIC and was told . . . nope. AWE-Tuning is going to be developing an air-water intercooler for the TT. At least that is what I was told, but my guess is this will be developed for the VW market and made to fit the TT. The AWE air-water IC will come with a new Garrett chip. That is the ONLY detail I wa told.

That is it. No other way to get a custom TT chip. The A4 community has these chips available to them:

Stock chip (K03)
Stock chip for K03 + exhaust
K04 chip
100 octane chip for K03
100 octane chip for K04

I believe that is all of the chips from what AWe told me.

The TT's have:

180 Fwd Stage I & II
180TTQ Stage I & II
225TTQ Stage I

That is it! For those that don't know the difference between Stage I & II . . . stock exhaust and aftermarket exhaust.

Basically Garrett is ignoring the TT market figuring it is too small and he can't make money in it. The thing that really pisses me off about this is Garrett Lim himself told me when I met him that he will CUSTOM PROGRAM a chip for me when I change my turbo! He said it is part of his service! So much for that promise! That is one of the reasons I went with his chip as opposed to APR or MTM at the time. I got my chip back in Feb 2000 from AWE-Tuning.

I thought I would let everyone know . . . I know a few people will be dumping their Garrett chips in favor of something else. I might be doing the same thing in the Spring . . .

Default All depends on what else you plan on doing with the car .. .

if you currently have the Stage I chip the Stage II is supposed to be a FREE upgrade, ask about it then decide. If I were you I would make my choice either Abt or APR.

Default I have no idea what the hell you're babbling about, but all the big words are just forcing me to

believe you... These aren't the same people who made the erroneous windshield spray thingy diagram(s) are they? Because, those people hold no credence, in my book, lousy ba$tards... ;-)

Ummmm, so, Larry, what does all of the above mean? Did these people promise or imply a product they did not deliver? Or, were TTers just hopeful that they would make the same chips for the TT as they do for the A4/S4??? Are their products thought to be better than those of other manufacturers?

TIA

Default yes, no and maybe . . .

Certain things were promised, chips were custom made for the A4 and S4 and were promised to be done for the TT as well. As far as which is better, that has been debated on here and other places ad nauseum, not what I was trying to get into.

Just pissed me off on Friday and I had been sick the past few days and today I decided to write this up.

Nothing more nothing less. I am sure someone from Garrett or AWE will either come on here on Monday and either deny or say I "was confused", but believe me I was NOT confused about anything. I was on the phone with them for about 15 minutes asking them over and over again. I was and still am pissed off about this. The chip getting reprogrammed is one of Mike's needs and he has to find another way to get the FMIC optimized. That is the sad thing about all of the people adding various things to their TT's . . . the chips are not optimized to use the various items.

Nobody is making a chip for the 225 that takes into account an aftermarket exhaust, let along a larger Intercooler! Maybe in Europe they are doing this, but not in North America.

Default Please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there a lot more TT's than S4's in the USA??!!!

Even if you cound A6 2.7T's, it can't be that disparate. Just a marketing choice, I suppose.

I wonder, has MTM pulled back in the USA or do I think that just because they are out of favor here?

Default We really are very limited in computer upgrades comparatively

Other car makes have a multitude of performance progams available and usually cheaper. For instance, putting a chip on a TT is great, but when u add a CDA box/K&N filter, intercooler, exhaust, etc, all of these things could be exploited by different programming in the chip. Quite a shame that we are unable to wring out the bits of power of these upgrades.

Default One thing. you don't need special programming for the FMIC.

Its already there depending on the intake temp after the IC. The ECU will adjust the timing and fuel ratio buy it self. Just like summer and winter driving. You don't use a different depending on season. All that programing is in the chip. and no you don't get more or less air with the FMIC the overall sizes are about the same. (7.25*7.25*3.5)*2=367, (10.5*20*2)=420
