I've heard from S4 owners that the alcantara wears out on steering wheels pretty quickly.
As nice as it may sound, it sounds like they start to look like crap much faster than the leather steering wheels like we have do. I'm not planning on even checking into having mine retrofitted.

Actually, I saw some seats w/Alcantara inserts in S4s, and they looked pretty shabby, I thought
at the time, that they might just need to be cleaned. I would be interested to know how well the material ages...

I've heard alcantara seats hold up pretty well, actually.
I guess it's something about having the material on the hard surface of the steering wheel with sweat and whatever else you have on your hands.
I used to have a steering wheel cover for my Camry when I lived down south that looked and felt a lot like alcantara. After a few years, the surface of the material started to wear away and just starting looking horrible until the point where someone just took it off and threw it away...I would imagine something similiar is happening to the alcantara steering wheels over time, but you just can't throw them away and buy another one.

I love the way the Alcantara looks, on the seats at least, but I'm pretty tough on eqpt and would be
worried about them wearing out or getting dirty over the lifetime of owning the car.
I'd probally have to put a set of Wet Oakles over them at some point.
