Hey LarryTT, anyone? - another cluster bug? real problem?
My temp sensor will read normal then drop to cold, then return etc etc intermitent but frequently...
The VAGCOM software shows no codes and the output tests move the needle properly - sound like a coolant sensor to you? Ugh if it's a wiring issue with an intermintent short! Is it similar to the issue you were having? Suggestions ? I'm not eager to return the dealer yet again... might wait the month or so to just have this checked during the 20k service (sigh). What if any solution did you get?

Julie, you missed my 55.2 yesterday. I knew there was more time ...
especially in the beginning section (turn 1), so I turned it up for the last 2 runs, but spun (still getting a 60) and slowed to a 57.8.
When I came in on my last two runs, I stopped to hear my time, and they said that the course workers were calling in that my car was up on 3 wheels ... uh, yeah? Isn't that the way it is supposed to be?

I would have them test the sensor...could be the instrument cluster though.....
I had a problem with my gas guage being "lazy" but all my guages including tach and speedo at one day at a stop sign, speedo and tach got erratic. Then all was OK but the gas guage was the longer term problem slowly moving to proper level when started in the am and really long after a fill up. Fuel sender was tested and Ok (dealers first reaction was it was the sender but upon testing it decided the cluster). I did the vag com check and all tested OK and functioned. With new instrument cluster all is fixed.

Julie, how are the readings when using the HVAC controls?
By that I mean have you put the HVAC into diagnostic mode? When you do go to #49, that is the engine coolant temp. If that is also erratic then it is as Michael said the temp sensor/sending unit, if not it could be the cluster.

Busy day - I'll try that tomorrow (geez, it's like dark out already!)
I'm thinking sensor or short only cause when I use VAGCOM for output tests, the needle always reponds as expected (I ran multiple tests).
Measuring block 49 seems like a good way to test - I'll drive the car and when the guage goes to dead-off cold, see what the measuring block sez
