I think he just needed to meet his quota...definately fighting it. Twp. cop using VASCAR can at least be proven to be full of human error....

I hope you know not to pay it right away. Definitely show up in court. Just showing up will reduce the fines and points one level down. If you're lucky or can talk your way through you may end up with an equivalent fine which carries no points. Wreckless driving maybe? This is your goal.
Go to court, you may need to take a half a day off. They will give everyone a chance to talk to the prosecutor and workout a deal. PPL with lawyers go first. If you got a ticket for 25-30mph over the limit the Lawyer is a must. 10-20 your call. < 10 you prob don't need one and can get off yourself.
When you talk to the prosecutor mention your clean record and in a very respectfull tone tell him that you trust the police officer if he says you were speeding and deserve to be punished with a fine. However you are uncertain about your job and may lose it in the next round of layoffs and do not deserve to pay inflated insurance rates for the next three years. Tell him you'll settle for any offense with an equal or greater fine, but no points. See how that works.
If you still get few points attend a defensive driving school. It takes 6 hours and depending on the instructor can even be entertaining. In NJ you can do that every 3 years and it will take 2 points off your record and give you 5% off your insurance.
