quattro Challenge
I had a chance to save face for the TTs but blew it! Wife was kind enough to take the first 2 runs to warm the tires for me (it was cold!). I took my first run leaving the car in 2nd after the takeoff but discovered it took an eternity to get from the last corner to the finish lights, engine was flat in low revs. Time 13.05, decided it really wouldn't cost me anything to downshift in the slow corner and the upshift time had to be much less than bogging to the finish lights. Made the next run with a downshift but managed to turn the wipers on exiting the bend. By the time I got the wipers off I forgot I was in 1st and road the rev limited all the way to the finish. I kept wondering why ESP would be active on a straightaway. Didn't realize what had happened until I almost came to a complete stop at the finish and touched the gearshift, discovering I was still in 1st. Time 12.71. If this wasn't bad enough I was given a reprieve. Since an allroad, of all things, tied the time & a S4 did 12.55+2 cones they said run again, it doesn't count but we want to see what is quicker. I went and put the brakes on too hard going to the first turn and had to downshift to 1st just to exit, cementing my worst run of 13.3. Apparently the others didn't do well either, I heard someone say something about choking. Someone in another group did 12.6 with a S4, at least an Audi won.
