Default Need help with TT decision (whether to buy or not)

Not that anyone would tell me that buying a TT is a bad decision.

I bought a new Tahoe last year, it's a top of the line Z71 ect. But am not feeling any lovin from it. I have always wanted a TT since 99. The questions are:
1)How are these TT's on long trips 500-100 miles?
2)Can you feasibly take them up skiing with tires?

I guess ideally I'd like to hear from someone who has owned both a TT and a SUV/tahoe. My greatest fear is selling my Tahoe for a huge loss, only to find out I made a mistake.
Enlighten Me!

Thanks ahead of time, GB

Default Never owned an SUV, but the TT is the best road trip car I've ever owned. With a set

of winter tires, you can go skiing. Lots of people here can post pics of their TTs with ski racks.

Default 1) I've done several 500 plus road trips.....(more)

I get out feeling perfectly fresh. The car is perfect for long trips.

2) the quattro version of the TT (with appropriate snow tires) is ideal for ski trips.

Buy it!

Default I've owned a GMC Yukon - do I qualify??

If so, here are my thoughts:

You obviously can't compare the vehicles b/c they are designed for different universes, however, you will be surprisingly pleaed w/ the amount of cargo space in the TT coupe. Audi offers a unique and proprietary roof rack for the TT which adapts to skis, bikes, etc... . With the rack, you will have no trouble getting yourself and a buddy to the slopes (with all of your gear).

As far as snow handling, very simple: my TT blows the Yukon off the streets! The car (w/ Quattro & good Winter tires) handles like a turbo driven sno-cat. I've done things in this car that would have sent the Yukon into an unrecoverrable spin and that's not an exageration.

I went from a full sized Ram Pickup to this car and couldn't be happier (I have owned other sports cars/ sports coupes so I had a previous frame of reference).

You will not be sorry if you make the move. Selling the Tahoe might be a bit of an issue but well worth it.

Good Luck!

Default I have taken quite a few long distance trips . . .

One was from Long Island to Highlands, NC. It was around 850 miles each way. I drove there in a single day. For me, I have a bad back and it takes about an hour to get comfortable on a long trip. Once I am settled in I can drive for hundreds of miles.

I drove a TT from Long Island to Topeka, KS then to Chicago, IL. That was somewhere around 2,400 miles give or take.

I have also driven from Long Island to Maine in my TT and to various other spots throughout New England. Driven down to VA, MD, DC as well . . .

As for an SUV. I have a 1990 Nissan 4x4 and have driven that cross country 4 times. Once to Phoenix, Dallas (2), Houston.

Each vehicle is used for different reasons. Now my truck is used soley to tow my WaveRunner and haul all sorts of stuff. My TT is for fun and cruising.

To go skiiing I have taken both cars, but would only take the TT now. Put on some snow tires and don't even worry about it.

I'm sure this is much more than you wanted to know . . . keep whichever makes you the happiest and the one that you can use on a daily basis. Obviously the Tahoe will carry more, but that is about it. The TT will handle the snow MUCH better than the Tahoe, even in 4WLo. I watched plenty of SUV's/Trucks last year in 12"+ of snow slip and slide trying to follow me as I carved out new paths on local side streets in the snow.

Default SUV to TT good move......>>

Depending on your needs of course. I was doing a lot of traveling in a V8 Explorer and it was hurting me (physically).....Switched to the TT and trips are now effortless....I fact just got back this afternoon....Ran 415 miles in 5.5 hours. One 10 minute gas stop and I'm feeling as fresh as when I left this morning. Try that in your average SUV. As to snow, have not experienced that with this car, but everyone here in the snow belt raves about the TT's prowess in the white stuff. You will take a bath on the Tahoe though....not a real good time to sell that stuff with 0% financing on new pieces....

Default Thanks guys, you've all confirmed my decision!

I just ran an add for the Tahoe and am on my way to the Hardware store for a FOR SALE sign. The Tahoe just never felt right+ I'm still SINGLE! I'm an adrenaline junky and also have a passion for fine automobiles. Non of which I feel in the Tahoe.

Now is a terrible time to sell my Tahoe, but a great time to buy my TT.

I've lost that lovin feelin, I'll be back with a TT as soon as is humanly possible.

Thanks, we'll see ya on the board.

Default Road trips? :)

Big-time grins!

Drove mine 1200+ miles to Minn last T'giving, and will again next month. Quattro, snow tires and some common sense make it a stylin' four-wheel snowmobile. Plus, there's the big grin you get when you get in, crank up the heater and the heated seats (warm back = happy back)! Good luck with the decision. Cheers!
