DETROIT - Volkswagen of America held the price line on many of its 2002 Volkswagen and Audi models and posted moderate increases on most others. The result was a hike of 0.49 percent for Audi and 0.58 percent for VW, according to an Automotive News analysis. The boosts average $179 for Audi and $128 for Volkswagen.
Volkswagen made no increases on its top-of-the-line Passat models, and the Cabrio convertibles and EuroVan minivans also were untouched.
The three lowest-priced New Beetles have the same stickers as at the end of the 2001 model year; the other Beetles and the Golfs are up $150 to $325. The best-selling Jetta models, which account for 41 percent of VW deliveries, are up $150 to $400.
VW prices for 2002 run from $15,600 for the Golf two-door to $32,925 for the Passat GLX V-6 four-door wagon with all-wheel drive.
Audi held the price line on the TT coupe, the S4 sedan and two A8 models. Increases on the A4 and A6, Audi's best sellers, varied widely. They ranged from $50 to $1,100.
Audi prices start at $25,475 for the 1.8T sedan and climb to $73,075 for the S8 quattro sedan.
