Default Curious about why you would race a TT...

It's basically a GT car, comfortable and heavy. It was designed to be visually appealing, not aerodynamically optimal. Personally, I love the way it looks and the way it drives just as it is. It seems to me to be pushing sand uphill, however, to try to make it into a race track terror or a mini-dragster. Why do it?

Default I fully understand that you can modify a TT. You can modify an Aztec if you want. My question is...

Do they make a sensible platform for a racing sports car. You start with about 500 lbs. more than others in its class and it's body shape generates more upforce than downforce. Why not enjoy it for what it is rather than try to make it into something it's not?

But as Michael TT points out, the TT is essentially FWD for racing.

Default As a street racer, the car is suitable while chipped making more torque across a broader rev range

than an '01 911. Deliver that through a AWD platform with suspension tricks and tires; the car is quite a sleeper and will dust many cars in the twisties because of the nimble handling and broad powerful torque. It weighs less than a 911 as well. I don't think it is the best platform for a track race car, but who am I to argue with the likes of Aiello (Lemans champ) and ABT.

Default So you're saying its got a good engine. Agreed. I don't know if I agree...

with the nimbleness remark though. For me it's great- I drive fairly fast on fairly open back roads (benefit of living in the boonies) and love it through the curves. But I know from what I've read that the suspension is not the equal to some others (Porches being an obvious example), and I do recognise that softness myself when I push it a bit. I also wonder about the AWD bit after reading Michael TT's dissertation yesterday on the foolishness of putting wider tires on the rear of what is essentially a FWD car until the Haldex kicks in. I am assuming you're conceding on the weight and aerodynamic parts of the question as you did not address them.
