Windshield stress cracks... any input?

So I go outside this morning and notice a crack in my windshield. It starts directly in the center of the windshield at the top of the glass. It them travels down a bit and then snakes off as cracks tend to do.

Glass cracks, it's a fact of life with a car.

However, glass usually only cracks when some force is applied to it by a stone or a rock.

There is no impact hole/indention of any kind on my windshield. The crack just magically appears at the top of the first (outside) pane and starts to snake down.

Anyone else had this problem? Sound like a defect in the glass? Warranty covered?

I'll try to take a picture, but I don't know how successful I'll be.

warranty should cover it if it was a stress crack...

if a rock or an object caused it to crack, then its not covered under warranty

I have curious/mysterious line in windshield

will post photo if I can get one...
the line is almost a straight vertical line (not exactly straight, it wanders
somewhat) smack in the middle of the windshield,
it seems to be visible when glass has moisture, but disappears when defroster
used or when sun comes out and warmth evaporates the moisture.
There is no crack (yet?) but I'm wondering if it is a Sign of Impending Doom.
I've cleaned glass inside and out, no effect.
Anyone else ever noticed such a thing?
