Just got a 2001 TT as second car to share with wife.
Dealer friend said another year at least before they come out with Tip... IMHO, probably CVT first for the front wheeler.
Wife doesn't know stick either but is learning it. It's a beautiful enough car that she will take the time to learn. Just get use to some painful clutch wear+tear... but hey, life's too short.
Driving stick is so much more engaging... especially here in the San Fran hills.

My Audi dealer / trusted friend said at least another 1.5 year away. By my guestimation, it will probably be a CVT and not Tip by then... CVT takes up less room than Tip and will be "quattrofied" by then. Can't wait to test drive that. But IMO, stick is what this little badboy deserves.
Either way, if you convince her to do stick, I highly recommend her learning on a used, beat-up non-TT. My wife is learning stick on our TT ... be warned now... it can be painful to watch. You can always fix a car, but you can't fix the wife (at least not legally in most of the 50 states).
