Default My headlight saga continues

I go in for service yesterday, drop it off at 9am (I am never up that early). Bring it in, and I get my loaner- Infiniti G20, I liked the I30 I got last time more, but I am just glad I got one.

I go on all day, and make a call around 3pm, to double check I can pick the car up at 4pm. Service girl says no problem.

Car was in for 30K mile checkup, passenger mirror rattled, and have both of my headlights replaced.

Around 4 picked up my dad since his A8 was in for service also it turns out. He gives them a call on the way to the dealership to make sure his car was done. His car was broken into a few days ago, and the driver side window needed to be replaced. He calls and they said it will be ready when he gets there.

We arrive and the service girl tells my dad that they ordered the wrong window seal, they ordered one for an A6, not the A8. Lets just say he was far come happy and I think the whole service area heard the conversation.

Then she tells me that they ordered the wrong headlight for me. They ordered a 2001 headlight, rather then a 2000 headlight, and there are diffrences. So this being my 6th or 7th visit they have still not gotten their **** together. I am going to bring this up to the Audi Manager on Monday. This is complete ****. It must be overall stupidity, I mean who can order wrong parts for two diffrent customers, on the same day.

At least my 30K mile checkup and mirror got fixed. Unfortunatly my dad is not quite that lucky.

Default Wow, is THAT annoying. Whenever that happens to me I

wonder if the problem really is that they never had a chance to look at my car, so they tell me the old "we ordered the wrong part" BS.
Sorry you and your father had to be aggrevated.

Default Tom, there is no MY 2000 headlight. A new headlight has superceded the 2000 ones...

as my new headlights have the transformer (the thing that zaps the power on, in case Joel is reading) mounted on the light assembly. In stock form the transformer was mounted on the body. Also, the lights are more white in hue and less blue.

There are no two current parts for TT's with Xenons. Only one is current and only one is actually in the parts system.

Default not sure exactly what went on

but I guess there is a diffrent headlight based between 2000 and 2001. They ordered me a 2001, not a 2000. That is what they told me.

I have one 2000 headlight and one new 2000 headlight. One is blue (the old one) and one is whiter (the new one). They are going to replace both.

Do you have the whiter ones?

Default Yes. Let me clarify your situation again, I think I missed something...

You had both headlights replaced at the same time for whatever reason and they installed one bluer one (the 2000MY one) and one whiter one (the 2001+MY one). You would like them both replaced and they are ordering two MY 2000 lights.

My source that told me the Xenons are superceded for all TT's is me and my parts mananger. I saw that you cannot order the 2000 MY part number in the VAG parts system anymore. It won't let you.

I am curious. Open your hood. Does one of your headlights have a stainless steel rectangular box attached to the back and the other has no box but a wire to an assembly mounted just behind and below the headlight on the frame of the car? If so the one is a 2000MY and the other is a 2001MY and your dealer just had a 2000 in stock or something.

Default I will check, but there is one item that is not correct

I have one old headlight and one new one. Previously my parking light went out. They determined that the whole unit needed to be replaced. So they installed ONE new headlight. When I got it back I noticed how the new light was more white then blue. The last few months I have been working with them to get them both the same (either white or blue). About 1 month ago they told me they discontinued the blue and only make the white. This was no problem and 2 weeks ago I had them order me 2 brand new headlights. These two will replace my headlights, both the old blue one and the newer white one. This was to make sure they matched.

I will check on the "box" or the wires tonight hopfully.

So what you are saying is that no matter what they ordered it will work? They have a left and a right headlight in stock (one of them was ordered). They said the one that was ordered was NOT for my car, meaning it was not made for it. You are saying this is not correct? That no matter what they got it will be the right one?

Default NO matter what they get it will either match the older one on your car (the bluer)

or the newer one (the whiter) and then you'll have a matched set.

I also think that they can't order a bluer one anymore. When we tried to order the older part number (there was a VIN break in the parts catalog) that matched my VIN it would not let us order it. Fortunately I needed both headlights replaced so I didn't have to do through what you are going through to get a match.
