Default Latest "official" word about @Home from Insight Communications

Here's a posting on the Insight website for those of us who have @Home service in the Louisville, KY area.

Saturday, December 1, 2001

Here is the most recent update on the Excite@Home situation:

Insight, along with some other cable operators including ***, Comcast and Mediacom; is currently in the final stages of positive negotiations with Excite@Home. As a result of these negotiations, Excite@Home is continuing to provide connectivity to the customers of the companies involved in these discussions. We continue to remain highly confident that we will maintain connectivity for our Insight@Home customer base.

Certain communities in our Central Illinois service areas have seen a temporary interruption in service as a result of an inadvertent error by Excite@Home. This was a result of the fact that AT&T Broadband was not a party to the negotiations with Excite@Home resulting in a loss of service for AT&T Broadband customers. Excite@Home mistakenly identified Insight customers as AT&T Broadband customers. We worked extraordinarily fast to get service restored to the vast majority of the affected customers within two hours. We are continuing these efforts to restore service to all remaining affected customers today. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Insight will continue with our special efforts to provide uninterrupted high-speed data service to our customers and thank you for your continued patience as we work through this issue.

Default That's good news (certainly for you). Unfortunately, looks like *** pulled out

after Insight gave you that info. Comcast hasn't given us any information other than "we are hopefull" that negotiations will enable us to provide uninterrupted service...." (as of 9:00pm EST last night).

Fingers still crossed.

Default Yep, looking good so far here as well. Hopefully Comcast realizes they have no choice but to ....

reach an agreement.

Default You would think so. If they don't, I'll certainy use both DSL and satellite TV in our new house

No more Comcast Cable for me.

Ironically, I'm on my way now to a charity hocket game at the Spectrum to support breast cancer research and one og the major sponsors is Comcast. Can't argue w/ them about spending money on this cause though!

Default we don't have a dsl option where i live -- so if comcast blows the negotiations...

we'll move to satellite for both broadband internet and tv -- and we'll put an antenna up for local stations...comcast would be completely removed from our house forever.

Default I migrated Saturday AM. Just a matter of changing the email server entries.

The only part of this change over to ATT Broadband Internet that bugs me is the new email addess. Now it is @attbi.com instead of @home.com So I have to let friends and family know the new email address and remember who else may need correct email addresses, like Peets Coffee Online etc. A side benefit though is the level of spam will be very low for a while ;-)
