Default Motorola v.60 Group Buy?

I seem to remember that someone on the Forum worked for Motorola. Since it would appear that the new v.60 is going to be the OEM phone for the TT, is there anyone here that can organize a group buy? Now I should admit that my interest is not altogether altruistic: my StarTAC is on its last leg, so to speak, and I'd love to replace it with a phone that should eventually be compatible with the car.

So, the hard part: can we actually pull this off? Is there enough of a margin on this phone for a group purchase to work?

Default you can not order from Motorola, you have to get the phone specific for your provider

You can not just get the general Motorola phone. If you use US Cellular, you have to get the V.60 US Cellular phone. A group buy would only work if everyone used the same provider

Default I bought my V.60 on Ebay for right around $300

which is much less then what they cost at the store- around $450 without a contract. You will probibly have to wait a year or two before the V.60 comes into the $200 realm

Default Milwaukee, WI

but I am sure that the $99 is for a contract. It makes you think how much they are making on the service that they can eat $100+ on the phone.

Default Heres the problem>>

if you buy the phone from any random service provider, it will most probably NOT work in the car with the existing system. For example, a timeport will not work in a BMW or MB even though the factory phone is exactly the same. There is something specific to the OEM phones unfortunately.

Default Their pricing for service plans seem high

it might be that with the extra money they can get people out the door with a cool phone for less money, but get them every month with airtime charges.

AT&T Wireless in Chicago was supposed to be good, not sure about else where.

Default Not really true>

CDMA tri-band phones will work on Verizon, Alltel, and CellularOne(?) networks no problem. However, Cingular, ATT, Sprint all require specific phones.

Default ATT is THE BEST >>

as long as you don't need national coverage. Virtually NO dropped calls, you always have service, and very nice phones. If you can deal with having regional coverage, definitely go withe ATT, but their national coverage gets $$ unfortunately.
