Default Bilstein Heavy Duty or Sports?

Which of these best matches the standard shocks (with standard springs) on a 225 coupe. I want to swap out the OEM ones when I get new tires and I don't want firmer shocks. I've searched and read some earlier posts on this subject but it gets a little unclear when non standard springs come into the disscusion. So forgive me if its a dumb question or its been delt with before.

Thanks
Karl

Default I was told the Bilstein HDs would give a "little bit stiffer than stock" ride...

They were generally recommended without entering the kidney-killing category.

The question is, why swap out shocks? You are almost certainly still under warranty if the old ones are shot, and if they're not why risk your suspension warranty?

Just my $.02...

Default I have sports.....

Obviously I can't speak to the HD version, but am very happy with these. They are a bit stiffer than stock, but dampen the bumps so much better that the ride is much improved and of course the handling too. Springs are stock. The TT is my daily driver and I, as you, did not want a harsh ride. My co-pilot, Mrs Rascal, agrees that they improve the over-all ride.

Default HD's and stock springs are a very good combo......

I ran mine this way for a few months and liked it a lot. It will be stiffer than stock, but ride quality will remain good. HD's are mean't to be used with the stock springs although will work fine later if you lower. Sports are 22mm shorter and meant for dropped situations. No one's ever definitively proven whether the valving is the same or not but we suspect it is....

HD's are for stock springs, Sports are for lowering springs.
