Default OT: For you Home Theater or Engineer junkies

Larry and I and redoing one of my rooms in my house as a dedicated Home Theater.

Here is the issue. I would like to build my equipment into the wall. I would like to have it hidden. Such as a painting in front of it.

Now the tricky part. I would like to have this painting able to rise up to expose the stereo via remote control. Kinda 007 like.

The room will be wired with x10 so the remote control part won't be a problem. But does anybody know of some sort of motor, pulley, etc... that will do the job? I assume the painting will be installed on tracks, but still need something to actually lift the painting.

Any ideas?

Default smarthome.com should have something from drapes

or whatever that you could use/modify
I am doing the same sort of thing - but I'm building a false wall about 3 feet out from the real wall so that I can have a hidden door to get behind the whole rack to make changes etc. I'm using a motorized drop down projector screen though.

take pictures

Call the guys at Audio Breakthroughs in Manhasset, speak to Joel - he should have something available to do it. They do major installations all the time.

Default Wow!!! Looki what the cat dragged in!!!

I will give them a call but hope I dont have to pay a "major" price.

Default Personally, I think this is the best way to go about it (more)

on the false-wall part I mean. Better cooling, easier to work on stuff, and above all, its just really cool to be able to say "I have a hidden room behind a false wall in MY house".

Default Why don't you just mount a painting on a piano hinge so you just

have toswing it open and flat to the wall or is that not 007 enough for you?????? I can hook you up with a friend of mine who works for programs for a prof home theatre company. Doug
