OT (for me): Technology & The Design of F1 Cars
Quiet revolution on the track; Dec 6th 2001

saloons. But it is helping to create a whole new approach to
solving problems in engineering design<ul><li><a href="http://www.economist.com/science/tq/displayStory.cfm?Story_id=884959">The full article...</a></li></ul>
Unfortunately there's a lot of other stuff one needs to know about to flesh out the article.
"It seems that, even as it has become an evolutionary business, designing F1 cars has quietly triggered an engineering revolution."
IMO, F1 has been doing that for a long time, and is one of the reasons for it's existence.
FWIW: That the world continues to exist is "proof" that a committee is NOT in charge.
