It certainly appears to fit squarly in the WAY to good to be true catagory. I've never seen one or heard about them.

Is this for real?

Default for the $10 you get a lens and directions. Not a projector, etc

Since it uses a TV or another source, I would assume it is like an overhead projector or something like that.

Default It may work, but I doubt the brightness will be any good.

After all, you aint gonna get 1000 lumens from a CRT TV.

Default hahaha, I made one of these YEARS ago to project cg animations

on the walls for parties and such we used to throw. The quality isn't nearly as good as what he's describing but with a good quality lense it's watchable. I wouldn't take it over a real widescreen tv or projetor but it will work. It's all about the quality of the lense really. There are many issues that go into making this thing that he doesn't mention though. focus issues at the edges, etc. It was a neat toy at the time because a pc projector would cost you about 10k. With a good quality lense you could read text well and play games on the wall. This was without a real drop screen too. Again, a toy but nothing I would seriously look at to replace my widescreen HT setup.

If you are a Pc gamer or gamer in general it would be a good cheap way to get soem big screen gaming at a VERY low price.

Default so you build somesort of box, put your tv in it, then put this lens on the front and project TV...

on the wall? where do you put your tv-in-a-box?

i'm having difficulty conceptualizing how this works.

as with any front projector, there needs to be close to no light in the room for images to not look washed out, right?

Default Yes, it seems his version you actually place the TV inside the

box that you make. The version I made fit over the front of your computer monitor and could be moved back and forth to adjust the focus. I'm not quite sure how you would adjust that with his design.

As far as the image looking washed out, a lot of it depends on the lense you use. The better the lense the better it's going to project the light from your tv. But yes, as with any projector you want it to be as dark as possible. Even the cheap one I made was usable in very dimly lit rooms.
