stupid Houston Texas speed limit fiasco
As part of the EPA plan for the greater Houston area they're in the process of lowering all hwy speed limits from 70 to 55. Another revenue raiser. They also require more stringent tailpipe testing. So how many cars less than 5 years old fail the emissions test??? Most cars that young have platinum plugs and 100,000 tune ups. Another rip off.

continued vent! SUV's should be penalized to clean up air
I have three cars. All three get 28mpg (or higher)on the highway. My 225TTQC is the least efficient. I have to slow down and pay more for inspections because people are allowed to drive around in their SUV's getting 10mpg. My insurance is higher because when they run into something in their behemoth they smush it. Whatever happened to reducing our dependence on foreign oil? Where the hell is my government?!!!!!!!!!! Apologies in advance for my rant!

Why aren't you more concerned about the 2 major airports in Houston that
daily have thousands of jet aircraft taking off carrying up to 24,000 gallons of kerosene-based Jet-A fuel, pollute like nobody's business, and for the most part, <I>aren't even full</I> ?
SUV's may be less fuel-efficient, but they are no more polluting than other automobiles. I just had my '98 Expedition smog tested last month. It came in around 0.00X on each measurement, whether the limit was 1, 20, or 400.

So, you're saying that over a defined period of time, say 5 minutes at a smog test that
two vehicles- say, a 2000 Civic and a 2000 Expedition are tested and they both score 0.003 on one emissions test, 0.008 on the next, and 0.025 on the last that the Expedition pollutes more?
No way. It is <I>consuming</I> more gas than the Civic to move the same distance.
But, if they produce the same pollution numbers on the same testing equipment over the same amount of time... I don't get how you'd say that the SUV makes more pollution!
