Help settle and argument. Is Golf a "sport?"

Is it a pastime? A hobby?

What qualifies something as a "sport?"

... I think the sport part comes in the throwing of the clubs.

It can be all of the three... It's what the individual makes of it.

It's sort of like sailing, or skiing, or horesback riding for that matter. There are varying degrees of golf.

Some of those pro golfers are in amazing shape and truely are athletes. To my grandfather it's a pastime.. something he's done for ages and loves. To other people, it's a hobby. They collect antique clubs and memorabilia.

At my school, the golf team, sailing team, and the ski team are always getting the most crap about not being real sports. Ironically, we get the least school funding, yet bring home the most state championships... hmmm.
