Default Re Passing Lane

Correct me if I'm wrong. The left lane is the passing lane, which simply put means it's for.......passing? If there is room in the right lane, is it not the lane one should be located in unless overtaking? On a regular basis I come upon people who do not understand what the left lane is all about. I believe they assume that if their
doing the speed limit they have a right to the left lane and you, meaning me or anyone else who
wants to go any faster better forget it.

left lane is for passing - middle for travel - right for slow

Only problem is, 90% of the unwashed driving public does not know this!

Default Your not wrong.Thats what I have been taught..But of course, most people feel the way you described

Im going the speed limit or slightly above (no one is anywhere near me) but Im going to stay here in the passing lane.. I wonder what their reaction is when I blow past them at 80? I think the government should put into effect a law that forces everyone to take a drivers test every 10 years.. A 2-part exam.. First part is similar to a permit test (written, 15 questions fill in the blank or multiple-choice but none of that 4 choices crap, something like 8 choices).. The second part is a driving test.. Forget parking, I don't care how well you park, that doesn't mean you can drive.. Im thinking, highway driving (near big BIG trucks), maybe something setup on a wet course and thats it.. Maybe even having moving obsitcles jump out on the course, just to see how good their reaction skills are.. And also, STOP giving 16 year olds the right to drive.. make it 18.. Or make it a lot harder then it is.. Ive seen way to many kids in HS get into accidents or drive like morons..

Default amen.

what I really don't like about people not respecting the slow - travel - pass lanes is that when you're on the left lane and you're trying to exit on the right, it makes it hard to switch lanes when people are passing you on the right... When I was taking driver's ed back in France (20 hours mandatory to take the test) I was taught *never* to pass on the right because you never know when someone is going to switch lanes to the right... I try never to pass on the right, except when someone is driving really slowly in the left lane.
Glad you posted that comment =)

Default The cause of most of my daily stress!

Think about this. Those people, you know, the ones who drive like that...those are the same people who have trouble walking and performing daily activities... that is why I vote for mercy killings... mercy on the rest of the world. I just can't stand stupid people... the ones who just don't get it... it's too bad procreation isn't more difficult.

Default Gees, you too? They use to tick me off, but now.. My way of dealing with them is by blowin

past them at 80 on a turn.. I know, not the smartest thing to do, but some of these people are retards.. I mean, the old people.. I was driving on a highway (speed limit is 50) and this guy is doing 35mph!!!.. Okay, I flashed onced (if the road was clear I would have passed him, but don't like weaving in an out).. He doesn't move, why?? My guess, the reason he didn't move is because he didn't see me .. why?? because the only thing he was looking at was the road 5-10ft in front of him.. Mirrors.. I don't think they even existed in his world.. How about turn signals? That really ticks me off.. More so then driving slow in the fast lane..

Default I asked one of them >

Just last week, was in a colleague's car going to see a client. I asked her why she was driving so slow in the left lane, because I noticed cars coming up behind us and passing us on the right.

Her reply: "I'm going at the speed limit!"

I almost jumped out of the car... would have only scraped myself given our speed.

Default I love that! I do the same thing.

I never act like a jerk or try to **** anyone off, but some people just don't get "the world". I can only assume that their actions on the road are a direct corrilation (sp) to their daily activities.

I make it a point to move out of the passing lane WAY before anyone gets near my rear to give them the curtosey. I also flash truckers to let them in all the time. Why not?

As Gallagher said when talking about people who run "orange" lights because they are in a hurry: "If they wanted to get where they were going faster, they should have left earlier."

Default I get impatient with people like that .But my mom drives like that so I try to ...

cut them some slack. Some people don't have the reflexes to move quickly from lane to lane. Also technically speaking you are breaking the law by speeding & they are not by doing the posted limit.I guess the lawyers could argue that one.
I almost always speed but I try to do it as safely as possible.
