How long should the stock brake pads last???

I have 18k miles and my brakes started squeeking pretty noticably today. I called and they can't service it until next week. :-(

Should I wait till the 20k service instead?

Same exact thing with me...

Right around 18k miles.. I went in and they said there was nothing they could do.

I am going back in for 20k service tomorrow and they will be hearing about it from me again.

The brakes will start squeaking long before they're due...

Don't forget the pads have <i>electronic</i> wear sensors, so don't go just by the squeaking.

Try a couple hard braking runs, it's probably just excess brake dust on the rotors causing the squeaks.

That doesn't necessarily mean they are gone...

Did the wear indicator come on in the dash?
If not ,the pad depth is OK, and you are just experiencing "squeal" from various problems, like built-up crude that gums up the center channel in the middle of the pad, loose pad in the caliper, and general vibration problems from the pad ocsilating against the rotor.
It may be just simple 'squeal' that everyone seems to be experiencing lately.

Have you looked closely at the front rotor, to see if the pad is actually woren down?
Try that.
