Default Repost (w/ pics): (John/Glen/Steve/Jeff...anyone!?) My brake pads are scraping against rotors...

This is my driver side...the brake pad is right up against the rotor on both sides (fronts). Any potential for damage? I've noticed the noise for a few weeks, just didn't occur to me to check. Duh! (the red thing is my flash light)

Default Have you replaced the pads.?....

Reason I ask, If I remember correctly, there's a raised lip on part of the piston that needs to be oriented correctly. Are they wearing evenly, or more on the outside like the first picture looks?

Default I'm wondering when they changed the rear passenger brake line, it might

have affected them? I doubt that, considering only the fronts are doing this. Any suggestions? Warranty time?

Default couple things - first - the pads should touch the rotor - but

just barely - they float there until you squeeze the brakes. Second - if there is a dragging pad problem - 9 times out of ten its the caliper slides that arent moving correctly. Your pad looks to be uneven in its wear so I would think one of the caliper slides isn't "floating" properly. I havent really looked at our stock fonrt caliper much (hasnt been on my car very long) - but you can buy caliper lube at any parts store and try that first on the slides. You may have to swap new pads in to combat the uneven wear that you already have. When its working right you should be able to spin the wheel without any noticeable sound - but the pad will be right up against the rotor.

Default lube the slides - or take it to the dealer ASAP - the dragging

creates a heat condition and eventually you can ruin your rotors and calipers this way (I did it on the A4 once and had to be towed in rural PA - nothing like a midnight brake job)

Default heat is right...it's been raining here (FL) and when I stop, and H20 hits them...you see steam!

mind you, it's only mid 70's in the morning! ;-) Kinda chilly!
