I just changed my oil for the first time, and then...
Dan
There is an authorized service shop nearby, but I've heard horror stories about their work, even on cars they sell. Couldn't any quality auto repair shop legitimately do the work, even if you had to pay them, and still stay within the warranty? Thanks for your input.
Regarding changing your own oil and Audi's response.... I talked to my service writer about it just after purchasing my car. I told him that I planned to change my own oil, but wanted to make sure that I didn't have any problems with AoA. He told me to use factory filters, and to keep all my receipts for the filters and my oil.
If you used an Audi oil filter on your change, you're good. Just save the receipts. If you didn't, I'd make a quick trip to the dealer this week and buy yourself a few factory filters for future use, and to CYA for this oil change. They don't know yet, what filter you used on this change. Before you actually take the car in for service, make another oil change and put on the Audi filter. Make sure to keep a log book with your mileages, and SAVE THE RECEIPTS!
Now, regarding the filters. You'll hear a hundred different opinions on filters. Here's mine, which is derived from some internet detective work, as well as info from my German tech friend and an Audi tech. Neither have ever seen an engine failure which was determined to have been caused by a filter problem when an Audi filter was used. Or for that matter, any German filter. What I understand from my research is that our engines pump more pressure thru the filter. I'm sure that some of the more technically minded forum guru's could expand on that. What I've heard is that the filter media used in most of the common filters, (read Fram/Purolator/Etc..) can fail under the pressure. Thereby sending frag's of your filter media into the turbo.
My tech buddies say that they couldn't see any problems using a quality german filter on the engine changes. On my other German cars, I've usually used Mahle or Mann filters. But on this car, with the way AoA is, I only use Audi filters. I'd recommend Mobil 1, or Redline synthetic oil. After about 4k miles of break in.
I'm sure someone will say I've got my head up my a$$, but the above is just my opinion from the info I've been able to gather.
Flame suit on in case of attack. If you want, feel free to e-mail me directly Dan.
