Been thinking about the Big "30" and came-up with some Goals/Ambitions for my 30's...
1) travel more selectively
1.5) do a sabbatical year pilgrimage to the places of great writers/books (Joyce's Dublin)
2) go back to graduate school (in process)
2.5) read more and read more widely (at least one book by each of the Nobel Laureates)
3) convert 5 Evil/Pagan Materialists into 5 Enlightened Aesthetes
3.5) antagonize more absurd people; cause more people to question their belief systems; learn to channel my anti-dolt aggression
4) join the Board of Directors of two non-profits (one academic, one not)
5) pet more dogs; kick more cats (just kidding E)
5.5) understand the art of deriving pleasure from simple things
6) work on "The Glare" so as to be able to better effect any of the following changes: somebody's tone/thought/temperament across a boardroom; silence an insolent child at another table in a restaurant; make Henri not actually KILL the rabbits he catches
7) have at least 3 dinner parties a month; eat three "real" meals a week; one "sublime" meal a month
8) listen to more music and learn to appreciate it better
8.5) complete collection of Hemingway first editions; donate to a foundation or library
9) write article for Tin House about achieving Zen through the right pairing of shirt and tie
10) know more "stuff" about my car, so I can engage those so inclined in conversation
11) learn to back-off on strategy and planning where/when there is little or no potential payoff
11.5) be less rigid about the value of time
12) be more opinionated and obstinate - this one is really about perfecting an existent art form
13) never set a goal that will more likely than not lead to disappointment...
your opinions/thoughts/experience welcome... :-)

Those are some great goals... Board of Directors= power... Rahul likes power. :-)
(I have a few to add, but they're a bit too lude to publish in an open forum...)
Have you hear from any schools, yet?
(I am intrigued by the sabbatical concept - I may need to join you)
