Default More Nav Install Comments

Thanks to those who responded to my first post (about half way down this page). I just have a hard time believing that it would cost over $10K in PARTS to install the OEM Nav Unit.

I know there are people on this forum that own the Repair Manual CD for the TT (Coupe or Roadster doesn't matter). Is there a section on the Nav Unit? Maybe just a picture of the entire system (component list/location) to show how involved the system is? If so, can you post a copy, please?

Also, why would you have to replace the whole instrument cluster? Just curious.

Thanks,
-M

Default Just to give you an idea of the cost......

Join the Bentley Repair Manual group buy and get a copy of the CD for the discounted price of about 68 smackers.
At that point you are already in the hole nearly a c-note and you don't even know what's involved.

Meanwhile you could get this for $108!

Seriously, if I had the CD I would look for you but I think it's a lost cause...<ul><li><a href="http://www.freshtracksmaps.com/garmin-etrex.htm?source=dealtime">garmin</a></li></ul>

Default answers . . .

the NAV in the Audi cars is located in the center of the instrument cluster. That is why you need to replace the cluster. The cluster is what is tied into every system within the car, from the radio to the ECU to all of the electronics. If your car didn't come with a NAV it might be near impossible to actually install it after the car is built.

The NAV requires the cluster, wiring, NAV DVD player and the new panel on the drivers side in the hatch, if you have a coupe. Don't know where it is in the roadster, most likely the trunk in the same location.

The GPS itself needs to be installed as well as the wiring for the GPS.

Don't forget you need the speaker next to the bose center channel under the front top dash vent. You also need the wiring to connect the NAV to the radio.

It is also very possible the NAV might require a new/different ECU with the correct programming for the new cluster and the NAV, but I don't know for certain.

The way the Bentley CD is laid out it would not show all of the NAV parts required in any one place. It is not that well done.

You are much better off spending $2,000 or so on an aftermarket system along with a stereo, or get a laptop NAV system or get a GPS.

Default You can't link to your hard drive to post the pic. Put it into the AW pic poster

or find another host for the pic.
