Report on Dinner with my High School girlfriend..
On the down side, she smokes (but not while we were together) and is very conservative, which to those that know me, is just the opposite from me. Luckily we agreed to leave the political arguments until we have a day, a bottle of red wine and sun.
All isaid and done, we decided to try this again. The 300 mile gap will make it difficult.

In fact, one of my clients is a Democratic politician, and I support her fully. She is very bright and her views are quite thoughtful. Again, we agree far more than we disagree, and I joke with her every now and then that she is smart to have a Republican managing her money. I have attended her fundraisers, and even donated a token amount to her campaign.
I also have a lot of married clients where each spouse is on the opposite side of the political fence. One in particular is a very conservative retired Congressman who is married to an extremely left-leaning Democrat. So far as I can see, they have a great relationship, and have a lot of fun debating each other.
Again, it seems that while they may disagree, they respect the other's opinion, and those differences can help to keep things interesting.
So you shouldn't sweat political differences too much, in my view.
