Default And, for those interested got a reciever this weekend..

Well I really wanted the Onkyo, but got a deal on a Denon AVR 1801 that I couldn't turn down. This was about the only unit I didn't research but seems to be very competitve to the Onkyo 575, and Sony 675.

Sound is fantastic even with my speakers it is very clear. Exactly what I was looking for.

Power a little low, but plenty of power for me, and not too many sound fields. But I was really looking for quality of sound not options.

Thanks for all that gave me feedback on this one!

Next I need a new center channel, any recos?

Default I've owned high end HT and mid-priced stuff - I've ended up

buying based on listening with my ears and equipment based on reviews and sometimes just on specs - I'm using a JVC DD/DTS receiver only because the S/N was outstanding (greater than 105 db). The point is I never buy just based on name anymore. I have a panasonic TAU 36 HDTV monitor because it looked better to me than the Sony equivalent...

That said - BA is IMO the best bang for the buck for both HT and for mobile audio. Take a listen if you can.

I'm a big fan of Paradigm. I think you get a lot of bang for the $. I'd suggest auditioning them.

Default Your center channel should be the same brand as your mains. No auditioning required.

Center channel is almost all dialong only on movie soundtracks. You want to have your fronts, center, and rears all the same brand (although not necessarily the same model line within the brand) in order to achieve proper "timbre matching". Also, speakers from the same line will generally present the same load and sensitivity characteristics of the other speakers in the line, meaning level compensation will be less necessary.

If you're not planning on keeping the mains you have now, then audition new main speakers. Find something you like, then buy the center channel from that speaker line. You can get by with it just fine until you are able to add the mains later.

Default Definately, center and rears first..

all the same brand though. After listening to a few different DVDs it seemed as though the center and rears are the most in need of replacement. I would eventually get fronts but they could de the job for the time being.
